About
Leenat Jilani
Leenat Jilani is a Lawyer, Human Rights advocate and visible Muslim Woman.
Leenat holds an Honours B.A. from the University of Western as a Scholar’s Elective student with a double major in Social Justice & Peace Studies and Political Science. She graduated with a Juris Doctor from the University of Windsor in 2016 and was called to the Bar of Ontario in January 2018.
While at university, Leenat paused her studies to memorize the Quran. She completed her memorization in 2012.
She has trained in Conflict Prevention, Resolution, and Reconciliation and holds a Postgraduate Certificate in International Conflict Management from Johns Hopkins University—Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies and the International Peace and Security Institute. Before starting her articles, Leenat interned at the United Nations, investigating corporate human rights abuses.
Leenat is also a legal commentator who has published Op-eds in The Globe and Mail, Toronto Star, and The Daily Lawyer.
Outside of work, Leenat is on the Board of Directors for Anova, the largest shelter and sexual assault centre in Ontario, and the Mujaadilah Centre, a not-for-profit think tank that strives to amplify the voices of Canadian Muslim women. She is a runner, a spouse and a mom to two highly-spirited children.
